Our family has a story

Donato left for Canada in 1949, a year ahead of his family.  He wanted to make sure this was where his wife, Grazietta and him saw their family for their future.  He wanted to get a start on laying a foundation for his family that was built on what seemed like a lot of hard work, sweat and surely, a few tears.  It's said he would walk up to ten kilometers at times just to find odd jobs or do farm work for extra money.  He of course, learned the English language slowly and adopted a new culture the best he could.

A year later, Grazietta packed up what little they owned and embarked on a Trans-Atlantic sea journey - traveling with eight children.   The DiCarlos landed as immigrants to a foreign land and grew their family here with three more Canadian-born children.   They made it work through hardships and change from the very beginning.  It was never normal in any sense of the idea.  It is an authentic journey that is our family story.  Theirs was a story built from their heart - who were our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and even great-great grandparents.
A true love story never has an ending.

Park & Pavilion Amenities

  • We have exclusive use of the covered pavilion and 6 large picnic tables starting at 10am.  The pavilion holds about 70 people comfortably, but because it'll be a beautiful day, there are mature trees for shade or picnic tables nearby also.  Consider picnic blankets & chairs for something very different from years past.

  • The pavilion has a double sided-grill that will be the DiCarlo's heart of the party.  Each family can focus on what they want to BBQ, eat, build, or order to eat.  This should be discussed with the person who sent you this link invitation.

  • There are men's and women's change rooms and washrooms facilities on the premises.

  • There is a water splash pad and several jungle-gyms over rubberized surface for the youngest DiCarlos.

  •  There is ample free parking around the entire perimeter of the park and along Dalhousie Street.

  • All by-laws of the Town of Amherstburg are in effect in this public park space and you are subject to being responsible, otherwise, Uncle Tony will come to have a word with you.
